To aid in the Church's response to the dramatic increase in immigrant detention this year, CPMC is launching a new training for ministers: "Called to Accompany: Training for Immigrant Detention Ministry."Ā 

Course Details

  • Runs October - December
  • Five learning modules featuring video presentations by content experts
  • Five live Zoom sessions on Wednesday evenings to discuss the material with trained facilitators
  • Topics include:
    • Latest changes to immigration law
    • Reading and responding to changing realities through a Catholic lens
    • Empathy and trauma-informed care
    • Pastoral skills including listening, cultural humility, pastoral disposition, and overcoming language barriers
    • Common mental health challenges and how to respond pastorally
    • How to practice sensitivity and awareness aroundĀ special vulnerabilities, including gang-impacted individuals, trafficking victims, and individuals who identify as LGBTQ
  • Spots are limited -- applicants will hear by September 24 if they are accepted in the Fall cohort
